Who We Are A Company History

snow1The passion for the house moving industry began with my dad, C. A. Snow, in 1942 in Weatherford, Texas. His equipment to load and unload buildings consisted of step jacks until 1943 when he graduated to a winch truck. His first rig was two beams welded solid which made a frame to move houses on. Then in 1948 the family business was moved to downtown Fort Worth, Texas.

At the ripe old age of 12 years old I knew I wanted to follow in my dad’s footsteps in the family business. For my first moving job (at the age of 12) I moved two outhouses and hand dug the new holes. Throughout school I worked weekends and summers, just waiting for the day that I could go full time.

In 1953, after graduating high school, my dream came true as I became foreman of C.A. Snow House Moving. Two weeks after my dad passed away in 1966 at the age of 52 years and 6 months old, I made a decision to start my own business, H. D. Snow House Moving, Inc. I immediately started traveling across the United States and exchanged moving techniques with other movers. The knowledge I gained through my travels prompted new ideas.

snow2It was at this time I started building and customizing my own dollies, beams and pull trucks to give better service to my customers, during this time is when I began my “trademark” of putting a glass of water on a formica counter top to ride from the beginning to the end of the job without spilling. The longest move for a bottle of water was a 254 mile, two day move to Baylor University in Waco, Texas. It rode the entire 254 miles on a steel beam. In case you are wondering, I have not lost a bottle of water yet.

My three children, as they graduated high school, came into the family business. My daughter Donna and her best friend Debbie Smith took over the office and business end in 1973. My son, Gary, joined me in 1978 and finally the team was rounded out when my youngest daughter Toni came on board in 1982. Shortly after the kids came into the business I decided to change the name of the company to H. D. Snow and Son House Moving, Inc.

We are proud to say that we were the first house moving company, in the State of Texas, to begin using a Modern Hydraulics Unified Hydraulic Jacking System and Holland Hydraulic Steer Caster Dollies.

snow3Through the years H. D. Snow and Son House Moving, Inc., has grown into a third generation family business. From our humble beginnings back in 1942 with my dad at the wheel, to me in 1966 and now my son Gary, the love and challenge of moving all shapes and sizes of structures lives on.

We take pride in each and every job we move, treating it as if it were our own. Throughout the years we have learned that the best advertisement is that of a satisfied customer.

While most of our work is within 100 miles of the Dallas/Fort Worth area, we have moved many structures around the State of Texas as well as other states. We look forward to the opportunity of working for you.

Throughout the years we have learned that the best advertisement is that of a satisfied customer.
